What is B-Girl Manifesto?

B-Girl Manifesto is an all female monthly showcase series," celebrating the female energies in hip hop and beyond" by showcasing unsigned female artists of all genres of music. The showcase was created by Kimani Anku Productions in Washington, DC to give on-the-verge female artists a platform to speak their minds, free their souls, be seen, and be heard. Also, the B-Girl Manifesto Showcase Series shouts out their male counterparts with a featured segment in the showcase called "Revenge of the Bboys" that shines the light on male performers. Outside of the music, a museum of art is displayed to aid in creating a unique atmosphere not found at today's music events. B-Girl Manifesto is now taking advantage of the mainstream new interest in underground music, but we will never sell our souls to conform to the mainstream music that we are forced to hear day in and day out.

Can A Sista Rock A Mic?

Washington, DC is a city where talent thrives and is generally overlooked by major label outlets. The vision that Kimani Anku Productions and solSource share is evident in their desire and need to showcase, develop, and promote the dynamic, creative energies that exist in this great city. This event will provide a platform for creative members and patrons of our local community to interact with local talent, while showcasing these special individuals’ musical prowess, and illustrious creativity.

Can a Sista Rock a Mic?, will feature local, national and international women performers and media artists. The week celebrates the convergence of women in music, dance, spoken word, media arts and community activism in Washington’s urban environment.

A portion of the proceeds from Can a Sista Rock a Mic? will benefit The East DC Fund and DCTV Kids Camp this year.

DCTV provides fair and equitable opportunities for community residents and organizations to create noncommercial television programs and telecast them on cable channels, free of censorship or editorial control. DCTV engages the entire community in a dialogue that is broadly representative of its varied perspectives and cultures, and ensures the presence of diverse cultural groups and ideas traditionally unheard or underrepresented in the media.

The Kids Camp program is geared toward children ages 8-14. Participants spend an entire week brainstorming media ideas for a project and then learn the skills required to produce their project in an environment that emphasizes fun. FY 2004-2005 featured groups from Centro Nia, The Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Jewish Community Center.
